Trig:HDL ratio (mmol/L)

The triglyceride-to-HDL ratio is not a direct measurement but a calculation based on the respective components of the basic lipid panel. This ratio strongly correlates with an individual's cardiovascular disease risk by estimating the size and number of LDL particles in the blood. More specifically, the ratio predicts the number of small, dense LDL particles, which have the most atherogenic potential when compared to other subtypes. Some studies have also concluded that the TG:HDL ratio correlates with insulin resistance, but further studies are needed to determine its clinical utility.
